Interference With a Prospective Advantage

A person may have an expectation that he will be entering into a contract or a relationship with another party or parties for a financial benefit in the future, and a defendant may interfere with that prospective advantage. If the defendant unlawfully does so, the injured party may bring an action against him.

Torts in Golf

Golfers, spectators, and even third parties may be injured by a golf ball or other object on or off the golf course. The owner of the golf course or the golfer who causes the injury may be held liable in a negligence action to the injured party.

Tort Action for Interference with a Right to Vote or to Hold Office

Under the common law, a person commits a tort when he or she intentionally deprives another person of his or her right to vote or of his or her right to hold office. A person also commits a tort when he or she seriously interferes with the other person's right to vote or to hold office. A person who commits this tort is liable to the other person for damages.

The law provides everyone with some basic rights to privacy. Privacy is the general right to be left alone and free from unwanted publicity. Unreasonable invasion of one's privacy causes harm.

Family Car Doctrine

Under the family car doctrine (or family purpose doctrine), the owner of a car is liable for a plaintiff's personal injuries if the injuries were caused by one of the owner's family members while driving the car. The doctrine applies only to cases in which the car is owned for family purposes and the owner's family members had his or her express or implied permission to drive the car.
